Terms of use

These terms apply to backfillhq.com, the interactive demo, Backfill accounts, and the label screening that Mintfolio Ventures Inc. (Canada) ("we", "us") provides under the Backfill name. By creating an account or using Backfill, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you use Backfill for a company, you confirm that you can accept these terms for it.

What Backfill is

Backfill is a risk screening tool. It looks for likely problems on food labels, explains the rule it relies on, and drafts possible fixes. It's meant to help your own review.

What Backfill isn't

• Not legal or regulatory advice. Nothing from Backfill is a legal opinion, a certification, or confirmation that a label complies with the law.
• Not affiliated with CFIA. Backfill is independent. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Health Canada or any government body.

Your responsibility

You remain fully responsible for your labels and products, including what you print, import and sell. Your own reviewer, or a qualified advisor you choose, should check every finding and draft before you act on it. Results are produced with AI and can be wrong or incomplete. Drafted text, including translations and supplier messages, is a machine-made starting point that must be checked.

Your account

Keep your sign-in secure and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You're responsible for activity in your account. You can delete your account at any time in your account settings.

Free trial

New accounts get a free trial of 2 scans, with up to $2.00 of AI credit. There's one free trial per person, tied to a verified email address. We may refuse or withdraw a trial if we see abuse, for example multiple accounts, disposable email addresses, or too many trial sign-ups from one company domain. Trial limits can change for new sign-ups.

Plans and payment

• Self-serve paid plans, credits and add-ons aren't on sale yet, and nothing is charged through the app. Today you can use the free trial, or book an intro call to arrange a paid pilot or plan.
• Any paid arrangement will have its price, what's included and its payment and refund terms set out in writing before you pay. Taxes may apply. We'll update these terms before self-serve payments launch.

Acceptable use

• Only upload files you have the right to share. Don't upload other people's confidential material, such as a supplier's or competitor's unreleased artwork, without permission.
• Don't upload anything unlawful, or anything unrelated to food labels.
• Don't use bots, scripts or automation to create accounts, claim trials or run scans, unless we've agreed to it in writing.
• Don't try to get around limits, probe or disrupt the service, access other customers' data, or reverse-engineer it.
• Don't resell Backfill or its results as a service without our written agreement.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts the service or other customers at risk, or is used for abuse. Where reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund unused prepaid credits. You can stop using Backfill and delete your account at any time.

Your files and results

You keep all rights in your files and labels. You give us permission to store and process them only to provide Backfill to you, as described in our privacy policy. You can use your results as you like for your own business.

No guarantee

We work to make Backfill accurate and current, but we don't guarantee that it will find every issue, that its findings are correct, that rules haven't changed since our last check, or that the service will always be available. Backfill and its results are provided "as is".

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to Backfill is limited to the fees you paid us for Backfill in the 12 months before the claim. If you've paid nothing, for example during the free trial, the limit is zero. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, recalls, or product withdrawal costs. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that can't be limited by law.

The demo

The demo uses fictional brands, companies and people. Its findings are illustrative, and aren't an assessment of any real product.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction over any dispute.

Changes

We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date shows the latest version. For significant changes, we'll tell account holders by email or in the app before the changes apply. If you keep using Backfill after that, the new terms apply.
