Questions
Why do Indian labels fail in Canada?
Canada's Food and Drug Regulations (opens in a new tab) list sesame and mustard as allergens; India's FSSAI rules (opens in a new tab) (Government of India) don't. CFIA guidance (opens in a new tab) says tree nuts must be named (cashews, almonds), and that allergens inside another ingredient still have to be declared. Common examples on Indian labels: wheat in compounded hing, and mustard inside "spices". The front-of-package symbol (opens in a new tab) is enforced from January 1, 2026.
Does Backfill tell me my labels are compliant?
No. It flags likely risks and drafts fixes. Your reviewer, or an advisor you choose, makes the final call. The importer stays responsible for its labels.
